Basketball was invented in December 1891 by a Canadian teacher named James Naismith who needed an indoor sport for his students during winter! The very first basketball game was played using a soccer ball and two peach baskets nailed to a gym wall. NBA hoops are set exactly 3 meters high, and the very best players can jump over 1 meter straight off the ground!
