The first rubber balloons were invented in 1824 by scientist Michael Faraday for his experiments with hydrogen gas! Hot air balloons were actually the first ever way that humans flew through the air â in 1783 the Montgolfier brothers launched a balloon carrying a sheep, a duck, and a rooster as the very first passengers. Today the largest hot air balloons stand as tall as a 10-story building!
